Plumbing Repairs Tips and Tricks

Plumbing seems to intimidate most people, from leaking faucets to installing an outdoor sink. While most plumbing projects are indeed more complex than your typical DIY projects, there are a couple of things that you can accomplish in less than half a day. Here are some of the 4 easiest plumbing jobs you can do around your house. Luckily, the most common plumbing Repair issues are the easiest to fix.

1. Fixing a leaking faucet

A leaking faucet is probably due to the faucet’s head being too loose. This may be due to regular wear and tear or due to excessive tightening of the faucet’s head. Replace the old faucet head with a new one by switching off the water line that is directly connected to the particular faucet. Simply loosen the old faucet with a wrench and put on the new one. Test the faucet by turning back the water supply and check if it effectively stops the water from flowing when in closed position.

2. Changing a clogged showerhead

Showerheads often get clogged with accumulated lime from the water that comes out of it. Turn off the shower knob, loosen the old showerhead and replace it with the new one. Make sure that the new shower head fits the old pipe correctly and that it fits your shower head holder, if any.

3.Fixing minor leaks

Minor leaks from dripping sink pipes to outdoor sprinkler systems can be easily fixed by getting your roll of plumber’s tape and wrapping it tightly several times around the leaking portion. Plumber’s tape is very cheap is feel free to wrap it a couple of times around the hole to make sure that you have secured the leak.

4. Clearing a sink drain

Sink drains can be easily attended to by getting your snake hose and inserting it through the drain, which effectively pushes out any stuck object in the drainage system.
