Here’s a bit of business you don’t want. You don’t want sewer backup inside your house.
So you need to keep dry with the water that comes in from the ground, but also the sewer back up area because its not always water coming in from the outside through the foundation wall. It’s the sewer backup. So many houses are built that the sewer is often not big enough to handle all this stuff. So how do we stop it from coming in?
When is water is coming up out in floor drain and it’s a sewer back up issue. You know this is a very serious problem in terms of the amount of damage and the health issues in people’s homes. many of the municipalities, the sewer system and the run-off city sewer were in the street are one in the same.
It’s not just Bergen County New Jersey, but an increasing number of suburbs have out grown the quick capacity of their sewer service system though and we’re seeing more and more people out in the suburbs as well when you get rain, sewer pipe is flooded, sewer lines just can no longer handle the mass of water in sewer lines that’s without concerning the opning ratio of clogged sewer line . And the cities are frustrated because they have no answer.
They can’t rip out the sewer line system and put in a bigger capacity, as homeowners you have to find your own solution.
First thing we need rod out the and video camera sewer line and make sure that that is the problem that we are dealing with, a municipal backup and that its not a problem of sewer line is collapsed or tree roots or something which is causing a back up. We want to make sure that the sewer line has integrity and that it doesn’t need repair of and within itself you know first.
The other advantage of camera-ing the line is that we can see all the connections that are going into the line. It’s not just as direct line into your household lines into the sewer.
It’s sometimes the connections from your downspout or your drain tile or your sump pump and there may be multiple sewer lines going out. So it’s very important that system is designed properly and that the only way to do that is to camera the line first.
And then the once we find all the connections then we dig down out in the yard past that point we put in a vault and we put a dual or sometimes even a triple valve system out there which are one-way valves which basically allows your household waste to flow into the sewer under normal certain situations. So once the sewer backs up and wants to come back into your home these valves close and seal your home off and protect your home.
The reason you do the double obviously because sometimes the valves, I mean basically what it does is that it senses the pressure in the liquids coming back through, right? And then it closes, but sometimes debris or whatever can get caught up on one and then the second one’s there to make sure that it seals it up.
It builds suspenders. Especially in what we’re dealing with the sewer line flowing there and we’ve got tree roots and things like that and its very easy for a valve to get you know clogged or you know not seep properly and things like that so you know definitely we see too many single systems that it’s a big job to do this and you want to have peace of mind and so it’s just fool hearty to rely on one mechanical device.
Not all sewer back up systems include is that bypass pump. So in that vault that we put out in the yard there’s also a sump pit and ejector pumps so that when those valves close and seals you off from the sewers you can no longer, the valves are closed both ways and you can’t use your household waste either.
So we put a sump pump in that vault so that your household waste goes into that pump. And we pump your household waste into the sewer line overriding system so basically during periods of sewer back up you can continue to use your household plumbing and your life goes on as normal. And the pump has enough pressure and volume to be able to kind of go against whatever pressure comes back. Yeah, to pop right in on the line on the other side of the vault, no problem.
Lets just explain a vault, basically you’re going to dig a big hole and put down a cement sleeve, like a manhole. It’s all underneath the ground. But it’s big enough so that we can get down there and service and maintain the system which is absolutely important. Essentially the sewer system needs to be serviced and maintained.
But the vault is completely underground and we put a cover over it that can be sided over and you virtually don’t even know that its there, so it’s a big thing but it’s all underneath the ground. It’s typically in the person’s front yard, but more important it needs to be past the point of all the connections of your downspouts, sump pumps, discharge, urgent and any other sewer line, so it would have to be, it’s typically 10-12 feet out from the house, but then again it depends on where the best place is to be.
This has been a heartache for a lot of people with these storms and again this is a way for you guys to kind of combat this from both angles, right to keep the basement dry from the walls leaking and from the sewer backup and that’s nasty stuff you don’t want coming inside your house.
Our intent is to have a dry basement that you can use with confidence so to get it water-proofed, okay great we’re all done here. And when we get it all done and then you get a torrential record rain and now the water’s coming up out of the plumbing system and things like that. Again, you can’t, you know longer have confidence in your basement and you’ve got this major clean up and like that.
Firstly you’ve got a sewer backup problem in NJ. A lot of people have lived unfortunately with this kind of problem not knowing that it can be fixed or whatever and so they get a sewer backup system installed. And now with a normal rain, they’re like I won’t get any water in my basement and they’re getting seepage.
But they had no idea that they were getting seepage before because they were getting water in their basement, until their backup. So you need to address both issues if you want a dry basement.
